It’s possible to custom-design a fire apparatus in as little as 10 minutes.

While many online fire apparatus configurators sacrifice features to improve turnaround time, Pierce Manufacturing’s Build My Pierce™ platform allows you choose market-trending customization options with a wide range of chassis and configurations available. Additionally, with the Build My Pierce configuration tool, you know you are getting Pierce’s high-quality manufacturing, exceptional engineering and industry-leading service support for the lifetime of your apparatus.

Below, we offer a closer look at this unique fire apparatus configuration tool and sales process, and how to get started with your first build.

What is Build My Pierce?

A red freightliner fire apparatus is isolated on a white background with the body of the vehicle shown as a schematic drawing using the Build My Pierce tool. Build My Pierce (BMP) is a rapid-fire apparatus configuration tool allowing customers to custom-design their own apparatus with their dealer representatives by selecting various options such as chassis, body style and equipment. It’s a streamlined method designed to save fire department representatives time, help simplify the process of configuring a fire apparatus, and provide a quick detailed drawing.

“Pierce Manufacturing has the experience and engineering skill to create any imaginable apparatus with very specific customizations and department-specific components,” said John Kenna, sales representative at MacQueen Emergency Group. “But for departments looking for a high-quality rig, Build My Pierce is an excellent option. It delivers a rugged and reliable custom apparatus faster and at a lower cost.”

6 Benefits of the Build My Pierce Fire Truck Configurator Tool

A fleet of vehicles built using a fire apparatus configurator tool are parked at dusk outside of a fire station with emergency lights turned on. An interactive fire apparatus configurator offers many inherent benefits to fire departments. Pierce’s unique BMP model stands out with some unique features. The most critical factor is the streamlined process doesn’t compromise Pierce’s focus on building an apparatus to fit each unique fire department.

1. Save time with a simplified order process

Build My Pierce was designed to save you time and help simplify the build process. Using the BMP fire truck configuration tool, customers can review and select Pierce’s most commonly purchased configurations working with their dealer representative. In as little as 10 minutes, customers can create a complete specification and bid drawing. In addition, drawing revisions can be quickly addressed to dial in critical details—typically within five business days.

2. Shortened sales process

Using the fire truck configuration tool shortens the sales process, which typically allows for a quicker delivery of full Build-To-Order (BTO) configurations to meet customers’ needs.

3. Shorter lead times and delivery

BMP can offer standard or shortened lead times (depending on slot availability) due to its streamlined build schedule. With fewer customizations and a repeatable build process BMP custom apparatus can be manufactured and delivered faster than a truck that goes through the traditional build to order process.

4. Quality manufacturing with lifetime service support

When a fire department chooses BMP, it can be confident it is buying a fire truck with Pierce’s proven design and manufacturing expertise. Additionally, every Piece fire truck comes with industry-leading lifetime service support.

5. Mission-focused design

Whether you choose BMP or a traditional build, the overall process remains the same—identifying the immediate and long-long term goals of the fire department and understanding the mission of the truck.  A streamlined process should never mean compromising on the right apparatus and features for your fire department.

6. Custom features are still available

A single fire truck can have more than one million customizations, but if you’re looking for a more simplified apparatus, BMP can help. The drawing tool offers more than 1,500 available options and 35 customizable configurations. However, further customization can occur within the BMP sales process. The Pierce BMP platform team can further assist with the allowable customization content. BMP gives you the flexibility to build the right apparatus for your department with, typically, a shorter lead time and lower overall cost.

“The BMP program provides an exceptional experience for fire departments,” stated John. “The customer service and attention to detail throughout the BMP process makes it easy to deliver a quality, reliable product to my customers.”

Is Build My Pierce Right for Your Fire Department?

The red Pierce Manufacturing fire truck built for Biloxi fire department is parked outside in winter with a industrial facility visible in the background. If your fire department is looking for an efficient ordering process with a typically more accelerated delivery and a higher level of customization options compared to stock vehicles, BMP is the right choice.

BMP offers fire departments a simplified fire apparatus order process that can deliver trucks typically in a shorter period compared to build to order (depending on slot availability). With much of the engineering done up front, visits to Pierce tend to have a shorter duration allowing your personnel the time to be protecting and serving their communities.

The BMP program consists of Pierce’s most common configurations. The configurator can be used to build an apparatus on the Enforcer™, Impel®, Saber, and Velocity® chassis. New to BMP within the configuration and sales process is also the tanker product portfolio which includes the commercial wet side tankercommercial dry side tanker, and custom dry side tanker. The PUC tanker is drawable within the BMP configurator tool, but not offered in the sales process for BMP. This would follow the traditional build-to-order sales process.

Pierce has delivered over 800 BMP vehicles to fire stations worldwide with the following benefits:

  • Simplified order process that works to finalize details in the beginning.
  • Completely custom-built and designed Pierce fire apparatus.
  • Shorter lead times and delivery.

BMP offers a complete line of cab, chassis and body configurations along with a full library of custom options—trucks are 100% customizable to meet each departments’ unique needs. There is no reason to settle for less.
