The Winnipeg Fire Department was first established in 1874 as an all-volunteer fire brigade and was organized by local property owners to keep their properties safe. The department responds to an average of 120,000 calls a year and operates in unique weather circumstances with temperature fluctuations between -30 degrees Celsius to +30 degrees Celsius.
